2019 design trends : kitchen and bathroom.

Often the favourite room in the house, the kitchen should be considered an essential focal point of future trends. As a friendly rallying point, the kitchen has also evolved from year to year to adapt to the daily needs of its occupants and renew itself visually to be more and more attractive.

Darker is better

Long shunned, dark cabinets are increasingly present in households. Indeed, the popularity of dark, monochrome kitchen cabinets is growing. Demand for black and navy blue (matte and powdered versions) has increased threefold over the past year, and the trend continues to pick up steam. Blue is undeniably the most striking colour in modern kitchen designs. Whether as a wall, floor, cabinet or wall-covering, blue is the top choice and is now even more popular than grey. This development isn’t surprising given its modern and elegant look! For a touch of originality and to create balance, leave walls white and use dark tones on cabinets.

Design touch

Often overlooked, both the sink and the tap are essential elements in a kitchen’s design formula. The current trend updates the traditional stainless-steel sink with a black, white or hammered copper sink. Brass fittings are making a comeback and serve as a contrast to concrete countertops, thereby setting the tone for minimalist, industrial kitchens. Often designed in a traditional way, these sinks and faucets will lend authenticity to your kitchen and will come across as modern and refreshing.

Two birds with one stone

Free-standing shelves and open cabinets have a place of choice in modern kitchen design. The idea is a simple one: to make commonplace objects decorative! Everyone dreams of having a beautiful, practical and well-organized kitchen. To embrace this approach, you’ll need to review your everyday kitchen needs and determine which objects you want within reach. For example, display tableware that matches your décor! Do the same with mugs, glassware and even flatware. Also, consider using clear jars or wooden boxes to showcase certain dry goods. Why bother with doors when you can store useful items in plain sight in the manner that best suits you?

2019 design trends: the bathroom.

The bathroom is an essential room for every occupant in the house. Year after year, this room is in the focus of new interior design trends, the aim being to adapt and optimize it so as to create a relaxing and functional environment. The most important element is to choose the bathroom décor and layout that best suits you!

Concrete will be all the rage in 2019

You may have noticed that concrete is fast becoming a material of choice for bathrooms. Indeed, concrete is functional and exudes a modern and industrial style. With its strength and versatility, it’s an enlightened option for bathrooms. The use of concrete in interior design has greatly evolved in recent years; it’s now available in a wide range of print and colour options that can adapt to the theme of your décor. Choose a smooth or rough texture according to your tastes. Its robust style makes it a must-have for 2019, but its timeless look will keep it at the top of the charts for years to come.

Basins are powerful décor allies

Basins and washbasins are design elements that add chic to any bathroom. Available in a multitude of formats and styles, they become true works of art. As current trends run to simplicity, shapes and textures are used to create a contemporary décor. Choose frosted or tempered glass for a lighter look. This translucent material won’t weigh down small spaces and reflects light. Marble, on the other hand, combines aesthetics and neutrality; its noble and traditional aspect has a timeless beauty. If you prefer a more natural atmosphere, you’ll love a teak or sandstone sink, which will, in and of themselves, spread a warm atmosphere and give a nod to the ecological trend, one of the most popular trends of the moment.

Tiles are making their mark

Tiles and ceramics are very popular according to 2019 forecasts. Gone are the days when tiles were only installed on the floor! In the coming year, leading-edge bathroom walls will be tiled and laid with mosaic. For a trendy look, let your creativity run wild and install ceramics on strategically chosen wall surfaces. Monotonous traditional looks – such as tiles only used for shower walls! – are falling by the wayside. You’ll be spoilt for choice with all the patterns, shapes and colours available on the market. You can add your own designer touch, one that’s ideally suited to your bathroom’s décor. Whether you choose a glossy, matte, textured, veined, floral or geometric finish, a wall or floor covering can make your room unique and protect your walls from moisture.
