Many simple yet effective tricks exist to update your home so it has a practical and functional storage. The more functional your home is, the more time you’ll save, the easier daily tasks will become and the better you can focus on enhancing your quality of life in your home. From the planning stage down to the smallest detail, let’s review the best tips and tricks to create the perfect home environment while maximizing every part of your home!
The kitchen:
-Before you can implement kitchen organization ideas, you have to have a plan so that your layout suits your lifestyle and takes into account high-traffic areas.
-If you’re short on drawer storage space, repurpose some of your kitchen accessories. They’ll add an attractive decorative touch to your kitchen! For example, you could mount a magnetic strip on the wall near your work surface and use it to hang knives and other metallic objects. You’ll gain extra space and benefit from having these items close at hand when you need them.
-Secure an S-hook rail to the wall between the counter and the top of the cabinets on which you can hang your larger utensils. On this section of the wall, you can also install small shelves on which you can place fresh herb pots, your favourite oils and vinaigrettes as well as salt and pepper shakers. This is a great way to keep your countertop clutter-free.
-Why not install a suspended pot rack? Hang it above the island, a counter or even the sink. The rack will free up space in your drawers and cabinets as well as enhance the overall style and feel of your kitchen.
Practical DIY tip:
Make a rack yourself by using a wire grid or shelf, wooden laths, a metal pole or even a tree branch! Just add some S-hooks to hang your saucepans and skillets. That’s all there is to it!
-Maximize your cabinet space by installing sliding baskets and easily stackable storage bins.
-Create compartments in drawers using rigid separators.
-Place items you use daily within easy reach at eye level.
-Install hooks inside cabinets for tea towels or to hang cleaning products by the nozzle!
The living room:
-Install shelves, and then shine a spotlight on the objects that deserve to be seen. Arrange the shelves one above the other in a configuration that suits the length and width of the room. Or, feel free to install them in a less structured fashion.
-A modular compartment unit can be the perfect storage solution. You can set up your TV and audio devices in it, and show off your most precious objects. Select your favourite items, such as souvenirs, books and photos, and showcase them in the open compartments. Hide the less attractive items in the closed compartments.
-If your coffee table doesn’t have drawers or storage compartments and the space under it is free, add a few bins or decorative baskets. In them, you can store items that are distracting visually or easy to lose like TV remote controls.
-If you have a fireplace in the living room, create a built-in compartment to store logs. You won’t have to put up with a less-than-attractive separate wood bin, but, most importantly, you’ll be adding a very stylish decorative feature to your living room!
The bedroom:
-To organize your bedroom, you must start by organizing your closet. Install superimposed shelves on one side for shoes, folded clothes and bins to store off-season clothing; mount rods on the other side. Make sure to use all the vertical space available! Install hooks on the walls for scarves and belts.
-Hang suspended flexible pockets from the rods to create extra storage space.
-Modular wire compartments are both practical and inexpensive.
-If you need more storage space for your clothes, but your closet is too small to manage them all, install a rod between two walls to hang your clothes. Then, simply hide it all behind a curtain!
-Install small, superimposed shelves or modular wooden units above each of your night stands for a playful modern look that’s also super practical!
-If you have some space beneath the bed, slide some storage bins, drawers or airtight bags underneath.
-Large baskets are practical and attractive decorative elements. They can be used to store any number of items, such as bed cushions, additional blankets and even seasonal clothing. Mix and match them! They’ll become an integral part of your décor.
