For a practical on functional home !

Many simple yet effective tricks exist to update your home so it has a practical and functional storage. The more functional your home is, the more time you’ll save, the easier daily tasks will become and the better you can focus on enhancing your quality of life in your home. From the planning stage down to the smallest detail, let’s review the best tips and tricks to create the perfect home environment while maximizing every part of your home!

The bathroom:

-Purchase storage containers with dividers, so you can keep ladies’, men’s and kids’ accessories organized. DIY bathroom storage ideas such as this one make it easy for each family member to have their own dedicated space.

-Stack a few decorative bins on top of each other for a rustic yet contemporary look. They’re a fantastic way to generate extra storage.

-Install hooks for towels, and consider hanging up storage baskets for your hairbrush, flat iron, makeup, shaving products or anything else that takes up counter space.

-Roll up a few washcloths and towels, and arrange them in attractive trays, ready for use. Your storage space will be freed up so you can store non-decorative items.

-Make the most of your wall space right up to the ceiling by using narrow shelves to store your bathroom accessories, bath products and so forth.

-If the layout allows, install some built-in shelves in the wall that extend all the way to the ceiling. Build the formwork with wood planks and plaster; add a coat of paint, and you’re all set! In addition to enhancing the look of your bathroom, you’ll save space without tying it up elsewhere. Use the shelves to showcase decorative accessories, rolled towels, candles, bath products, bathrobes and much more!

The laundry room:

-Install a rod between two walls or between a wardrobe and a wall so you can hang clothes to dry.

-Install a shelf above the rod to store your laundry detergents and products. To kill two birds with one stone, install a wire shelf, which can double as a rod.

-Place baskets for dirty clothes underneath the shelf to make the most of the space. Use two baskets to keep light-coloured and dark clothing separate. That way you’ll avoid having to sort your clothes before doing laundry and save time!

-If space allows, adding a deep sink with a tall tap is a practical choice. With this type of sink, you can presoak stained clothing and make use of it for household cleaning tasks.

-Think about adding a counter or shelf to your room to create a space where you can fold clothes. When it comes to ironing, a standard board won’t be in the way since it folds onto itself and can easily be stowed away.

The staircase:

-If your staircase is near your front hall, think about converting the space under your stairs into drawers or a storage chest. Another idea is to use this space as an open or closed closet. You can also install shelves, hooks, a bench or compartments for each family member.

-Create a small desk space under the stairs! Having a desk under the stairs can be an ideal solution if you don’t have a free room to spare in your home. Just make sure the staircase is wide enough and that the stairs are high enough to install a desk or work table underneath. The space under the stairs is usually large enough for a computer and a few drawers and bookshelves.

-Another interesting idea involves converting the free space under the staircase into a wine cellar! You can install boxes with wine-bottle-size compartments or even a wine refrigerator. It’s also possible to install compartments and a small counter to store wine and liquor glasses and accessories.

The front hall:

-A mirror surrounded by hook is not only practical, but it will also make the front hall seem bigger and brighter. Use it to hang your keys, scarves, hats or even small decorative baskets in which you can store your mail or any items that could clutter your front hall.

-A bench or chest that’s the perfect size for your front hall will enhance your storage space while also proving useful when it comes time to don footwear.

-Installing a console table in the front hall, so you can empty your pockets and free up your hands (cellular, tablet, briefcase, purse) as soon as you get home is a practical choice. Make the most of the free space underneath the table with a few decorative baskets or modular shelving units. This is the perfect spot to store slippers, magazines, flyers and seasonal garments.

-Create a practical and decorative wall: Cover an entire wall with wood planks (horizontally or vertically). Install shelves above these planks and align hooks underneath them where it’s possible to hang coats. There you have it! An open-concept, rustic-looking closet that will surely shine a spotlight on your front hall!

-Organize your closet effectively: Use stacked boxes with compartments to store shoes and boots, and install hooks at the right height for kids to hang up their coat themselves!
