About Lighting

Frequently Asked Questions about Lighting

An LED bulb (light-emitting diode) produces light using a semiconductor. It consumes far less energy than an incandescent bulb and lasts up to 25,000 hours (≈ 20 years at 3 h/day).
A lumen (lm) measures the total amount of visible light emitted. Example: an 8W LED bulb produces about 800 lumens, the equivalent of a 60W incandescent bulb.
An integrated LED light fixture is a type of lighting where the LED module is built directly into the fixture and cannot be replaced like a traditional light bulb (unless the product description specifically mentions a replaceable module).
Kelvin (K) measures the color temperature of light. Lower values mean warmer (yellowish) light, while higher values mean cooler (bluish) light.
- 2,200–3,000 K: warm white, cozy atmosphere.
- 3,000–4,500 K: neutral white, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
- 4,500–6,500 K: cool white, close to daylight.
Yes. Many ceiling lights, recessed lights, sconces, or pendants now offer adjustable color temperature (often 3 or more settings, such as 3000K, 4000K, 5000K). This lets you adapt the ambiance to each room or your personal preference.

Fixture Height & Installation

Ideally 30–36 in. (76–91 cm) above the table surface. This distance prevents glare while providing proper illumination.
About 65–70 in. (1,65–1,78 m) from the floor. This height aligns with eye level when standing and reduces glare.
On each side of the mirror: ~63 in. (160 cm). Above the mirror: 67–69 in. (170–175 cm). Fixtures should be moisture-resistant.
About 70 in. (180 cm) from the ground, often aligned with the top of the entry or garage door.
As a general rule, recessed lights should be spaced 4 to 6 ft (1.2 to 1.8 m) apart, depending on their size. A clearance of about 2.5 ft (≈ 0.76 m) from the wall is recommended to avoid unwanted shadows and ensure an even distribution of light throughout the room.
→ Check out our blog for more details on recessed lighting.

Compatibility & Performance

No. Only those labeled dimmable work with a dimmer switch. Always use a dimmer designed for LEDs to avoid flickering or buzzing. The recommended dimmer type is listed on each product page.
Between 15,000 and 25,000 hours. That’s roughly 10–20 years of normal use—about 15 times longer than an incandescent bulb.
Yes, all our light fixtures are CSA certified to meet Canadian safety standards.
An incandescent bulb consumes about 6.5 W to produce the same light as 1 W in LED. Incandescents generate 10–15 lumens per watt, while a modern LED can reach 80–110 lumens per watt.

Types of Light Fixtures

Length should be 50–75% of the table length, or the diameter 50–75% of the table width. For kitchen islands, multiple pendants spaced 15–20 in. (38–50 cm) apart create a modern look.
