1- Fluorescent lights are a great choice to light the interior of your garage. They are economical (compared to halogen and incandescent lights) and high performance. They illuminate an area one and a half times their length. They are generally four feet long and light six square feet of surface. Their housing connects in the standard way to your electrical panel.
2- You can also opt for recessed fittings. Install them 18 inches from walls and 6 inches away from cabinets or workbenches. Here are the recommended installation distances according to recessed fitting type:
MR-16: One to every 4 to 6 feet
PAR-20: One to every 3 to 4 feet
GU-10: One to every 2 to 3 feet
LED: One to every 3 to 5 feet
3- Track lighting can also be a good choice for the garage. They are as efficient as fluorescents and recessed lighting despite the possible accumulation of dust or debris. Their adjustable heads can be positioned where you need to direct light.
